Sparks vs Storm- Rickea Jackson Drops 27 Points as Sparks Take Down Storm in Season’s First Double OT Win

On Friday, August 1, Rickea Jackson dropped 27 points, nine rebounds, and three assists as the Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Seattle Storm 108-106 in the 2025 WNBA season’s first double overtime win. The victory pushed Sparks’ record to 12-15, while the Seattle Storm are now 16-12 in the season. Apart from her, Kelsey Plum tallied 22 points, four rebounds, and seven assists for the Sparks. Azura Stevens and Dearica Hamby dropped 21 points each for the winners.

For the Storm, Nneka Ogwumike came up with a stellar performance of 37 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. She joined the 7,000 career-point club and became the only the sixth player to achieve the feat. Not only this, but Ogwumike is the first player in the history of the league to reach 7,000 career points while shooting at least 50% from the field. Apart from her, Skylar Diggins chipped in 18 points, one rebound, and one assist. Two more players on the Storm’s side finished in double-digit scores.

Sparks Outclass Storm in Season’s First Double Overtime Game

Apart from tallying 21 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists for the Sparks, Dearica Hamby set up a crucial layup with less than five seconds left to help the Sparks outclass the Storm in a thrilling contest. The Storm laid tight defense, but the Sparks were favored despite that, as well as Diggins’ failed attempt at the other end as the clock ran out. The Sparks led the game right from the beginning.

They finished the opening quarter with an 18-16 lead and maintained their momentum for the rest of the game. However, after an initial setback in the first quarter, the Storm made a comeback and ended up scoring 23 points in the second quarter. They gained a small lead and entered halftime at a 39-36 lead. The gap widened, and the Sparks trailed them at 67-59. In the final quarter, things took an interesting turn as Sparks posted 27 points to not only make a comeback but tie the game at 86.

In the first overtime, both teams finished at 13 points, forcing the season’s first double overtime. While the Storm were riding high on confidence, the Sparks made a stunning comeback and overtook their rivals by two points and finished the game with a 108-106 win.
