The battle for the 2025 rookie of the year award heats up and Sonia Citron is giving tough fight to the Dallas Wings guard, Paige Bueckers. The Mystics guard was picked as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. Citron created a WNBA history on Sunday’s Mystics vs Sparks game where she broke the Caitlin Clark’s rookie record.

Sonia Citron Makes WNBA History, Leads Her Name for the 2025 Rookie of the Year

Sonia Citron, who played in every single game this season, 12 points against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. It was her 36th game of the season scoring in double-digits. The rookie guard tallied three assists, two rebounds and two steals. With her 36th double-digit score, Citron surpassed Caitlin Clark for most such games by a rookie in WNBA history.

During the game, Citron hit three 3-pointers and set a franchise record for most 3-pointers in a season by rookie player. The franchise announced this milestone through social media. The 21-year-old has the fourth highest 3PT% in the entire WNBA this season (43.9%).

Sonia Citron has put her name in the elite list of rookies and she is also competing in the race of Rookie of the Year voting against the No. 1 overall pick, Paige Bueckers. The Wings guard is likely to win the Rookie of the Year honor as per BETMGM with an odds of -5000.

Citron was named an All-Star this season and has been a top player for the Mystics despite a poor season. Washington have been eliminated from the WNBA playoffs. The rookie guard ranks No. 18 in the league in points per game (15.1) and also leads the WNBA in 3-point shooting. She also ranks in the top-10 in free-throw percentage (88.0%).

This year, she broke various franchise-rookie records for the Mystics including the most points scored, most double-digit scoring-games, most consecutive double-digit scoring-games, and first rookie to ever record a 25-point, 10-rebound game.
