Should the Eagles resign Zack Baun? Ryan Clarke weighs in

The Eagles destroyed the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. While a huge part of the credit goes to the offense, let’s not forget what their defense did as well. We have never heard of Patrick Mahomes getting sacked 6 times in the Super Bowl before, never imagined that he would throw a pick-six, and fumble the ball, all within a same game. Vic Fangio, Eagles defensive coordinator, did something that no one thought was possible and Zack Baun was the player that executed his Fangio’s plans perfectly.

Zack Baun, OLB for the Eagles, had an extremely impressive season in 2024 and was one of the main reasons why the Eagles lifted the Super Bowl trophy. He caught one of most impressive interceptions we’ve ever seen in the Super Bowl. He caught a diving pick to give Philly incredible field postion, near the end zone. This helped the Eagles push their lead to 24-0 going into the halftime. He went from playing special teams in New Orleans to an All-Pro 1st team with the Eagles. Baun was one of the huge reasons why the Eagles had the Number one defense in the NFL, this past season.

The Eagles absolutely must sign him back with urgency because he is certainly going to be a hot commodity in the market, if they don’t. Even Ryan Clarke, ESPN NFL Analyst, thinks that the Eagles must resign Baun and here’s what he said.

What did Ryan Clarke say about Zack Baun?

Ryan Clarke said “Man, whatever that budget is, Zack Baun better be at the top of it.” Clarke continued “Listen. This is a dude that not a lot was expected of coming into this season. He was an absolute stud and a star from Week 1 in Brazil versus Green Bay. He’s shown position versatility. He’s shown that he can be the off line-backer. He can be the green dot. And he’s an absolute turnover machine being an All-Pro this year in 2024. To me Zack Baun is a centerpiece of what this (Eagles) defense is… Obviously you want to keep (Josh) Sweat, obviously you want to keep Milton Williams but there’s some things in the draft that may help you with that. You don’t just pick up guys like Zack Baun off the street, unless you’re picking up Zack Baun off the street.”

If Tom Brady himself, picked Zack Baun as his pick for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, you know you’re doing something special. Baun finished fifth in the DPOY award rankings and that does not tell the full story. Baun has turned his career around playing for Philly and he’s only 28 years old. The Eagles need to keep him in their roster if they hope of repeating as Super Bowl champs.
