American football quarterback Shedeur Deion Sanders played two seasons (2021-’22) of college football for Jackson State University. Appearing in 26 games, he had a record of 23-3 while throwing for 70 touchdowns. Sanders was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year in 2022.

Sanders transferred to Colorado State University in 2023. As a senior at Colorado State University, Sanders led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record in 2024, completing 353 passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns. Sanders was honoured with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Deacon Jones Trophy in 2022.

Sanders is the son of Jim Thorpe Award winner Deion Sanders. He grew up attending Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. Sanders had a breakout senior year, completing 251-of-366 pass attempts for 3,702 yards and 43 touchdowns. He was rated as a four-star prospect as he committed to Jackson State where his father was the head coach.

As per his Draft Profile, Sanders has the unique traits of being accurate as well as a savvy player. Having played with some elite players from his class, Sanders has improved his game over the years. He is often regarded as a pocket passer with limited scrambling ability.

The former Buffaloes’ quarterback is known to be poised within the pocket even when it is collapsing. He has also shown the ability to reset when a play has not developed, and can hit receivers in their stride, allowing them to make bigger plays down the field. Another positive aspect of his game is that he is willing to take hits while allowing his target to get open.

Shedeur Sanders was projected to be selected in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Coming as a surprise to most, Sanders will have to wait till the second round of the draft to know which franchise he will end up with. Prior to the Combine, Sanders was in the running to be a top 2 overall pick, but since then, his draft stock has taken a huge hit. There is speculation, though, that the Cleveland Browns may open up round 2 by selecting him with the 33rd overall pick.
