The first round of the 2025 NFL draft delivered more or less as expected

After a long wait amidst a great deal of excitement and fanfare, the first round of the 2025 NFL draft came to an end in a packed atmosphere located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The draft was a relatively straightforward affair this year, despite a couple of surprises along the way.

As expected throughout the offseason, the limelight was not on the quarterbacks this time around and it proved to be true as we saw only two signal callers off the board on the first day of the draft.

First Round Draft Selections

There were no twists in the tale at the top of the draft with the Tennessee Titans taking former Miami Hurricanes QB, Cam Ward, with the first overall pick. However, the rest of the draft was dominated in the trenches, featuring 5 offensive tackles, 5 defensive tackles, and 4 defensive ends, to round up a big day for linemen on both sides of the ball.

While there were not too many trades in the first round, the biggest surprise of the day came from the Jacksonville Jaguars who swapped places with the Cleveland Browns. The Jaguars moved up to number 2 overall to grab a premier prospect and two-way player, Travis Hunter.

Another surprise in the draft came from the fact that former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is still waiting for his name to be called, as he was not drafted in the first round. Nevertheless, with day 1 of the 2025 NFL draft all wrapped up, the excitement will continue on Friday for rounds 2 and 3.
