Sergio Perez Teases a Potential Return to F1

Sergio Perez drops hints about his future in F1 and his next team.

Sergio Perez had an extremely tough season in 2024 with Red Bull Racing. The Mexican driver was unable to stand up to the performance standards of Red Bull and ended up getting replaced. Perez was unable to improve upon his pace and results that he displayed in the previous seasons. Sergio Perez joined Red Bull Racing as a replacement for Alex Albon. He was an instant hit at Red Bull Racing. Perez played a key role during the 2021 F1 season to help Verstappen win his first championship against Lewis Hamilton. He was applauded for being a superior team player and defending his teammate during races.

The following seasons saw Sergio Perez losing to Max Verstappen in the majority of the races. He secured some wins and even produced a career best finish of second in the driver standings in 2023. Although, there was a huge gap between the two Red Bull drivers. Max Verstappen spent the burden of carrying the 2024 championship title for Red Bull Racing alone. Perez’s lack of pace and consistency led to his sacking from Red Bull. Although, his replacement, Liam Lawson was no better and could not even put his Red Bull out of Q1 in qualifying. Tsunoda is going to be the next driver for Red Bull Racing. He will take over from the Japanese GP in 2025.

Sergio Perez Has Been Approached by Some Teams Since 2024

In an exclusive interview with Formula 1, the former Red Bull driver revealed many details on his whereabouts after Abu Dhabi 2024. Sergio Perez explained that he is considering his cards and trying to find the right motivation to rejoin F1. On being asked about any offers, Perez also spoke about some teams talking to his for a potential seat-

“There are a few very interesting projects out there. I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi. Right now, the season has started so a few things will open up in the coming months.”

Cadillac is among the many teams who have mentioned Sergio Perez in recent days. Mario Andretti has confirmed that Perez is one of the options for an experienced F1 driver who can lead the team. Guenther Steiner himself suggested that it would be better for Cadillac to utilise Perez. Perez has put forth the condition that he will only return to F1 if the team project makes sense and he clearly enjoys it. Many former drivers have made a return to F1 after a few years. Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen are some of the biggest names that have returned to F1 after a short break from the sport.
