Senators Lock Up Ridly Greig with Four-Year, $13M Extension

Ottawa extends forward Ridly Greig through 2028-29, securing his services with a $3.25M AAV deal as he continues to show promise in the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators have revealed that they have extended forward Ridly Greig’s contract for four years, with a reported value of $13 million. The agreement will extend Greig’s contract until the 2028-29 season and will grant him an AAV of $3.25MM. The 22-year-old is currently in his third NHL season playing for Ottawa, where he has scored six goals and provided six assists in 36 games this season.

In his career spanning 128 NHL games, the former first-round draft choice has recorded 21 goals and 26 assists. Even though his scoring stats aren’t eye-catching, his overall performance is improving. Greig possesses some playmaking skills; his skating is excellent, and he is beginning to display a competitive edge and a knack for getting under the skin of his rivals.

Greig has transitioned to the NHL fairly swiftly after playing only 46 games in the American Hockey League, recording 16 goals and 16 assists. His rise and adaptability have provided the Senators with numerous options among their forwards, allowing them to use Greig at both center and wing. Greig has recently teamed up with Brady Tkachuk and Shane Pinto to create a strong line.

Greig represented Team Canada at the 2022 World Junior Championships, where Canada secured the gold medal. He recorded three goals and three assists across five matches in the tournament. Last year, he also played for Canada at the 2024 World Championships following the conclusion of the NHL regular season, recording one goal and two assists in two matches.

Once his new contract concludes, Greig will remain a restricted free agent with one year remaining before he qualifies for UFA status. He will qualify for arbitration—something he wouldn’t have this summer if he had waited—and will receive a qualifying offer of $3.25MM.
