The Seattle Storm are going through a fairly inconsistent period that has jeopardized their position in the playoffs race. They currently sit third in the East, but may slide if no improvements are made to their struggling roster.

Seattle Storm are reportedly making a strong late push to acquire Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey. The Connecticut Sun could listen to offers if the return includes valuable assets or future draft capital.

The Connecticut Sun guard formally wanted a trade after the franchise went into a rebuild making massive changes across the roster. Their willingness was to build the team around Marina Mabrey. But the star who is in her prime years wanted to play for a championship contender.

This fractured the relationship between Mabrey and the Sun management. Connecticut Sun are far from any playoffs contention this season after the kind of start they have had. The Sun are last in the WNBA standings with just 5 wins and 22 losses so far.

Draft Capital Holds Key to Trade

The Seattle Storm can bring Marina Mabrey, and Sania Rivers from the Connecticut Sun. They have three first round picks which the Sub will be interested in ahead of the next draft. This way they get a promising young core through which their rebuilding plans can truly be set in motion.

Meanwhile, the Storm, who are plagued by backcourt issues, would receive a consistent 15-points-per-game scorer in Marina Mabrey. This could enhance their playoff credentials and position them to make a serious postseason run in the coming weeks.

Marina Mabrey’s three point prowess also helps the Seattle Storm stretch the floor. Her passing ability could ease pressure off Skylar Diggins, who often carries the bulk of the offensive workload.
