The Minnesota Lynx’s Napheesa Collier suffered a major injury scare while playing against the Las Vegas Aces during the weekend. She collapsed with an ankle injury and needed support while walking off the court.

Collier has been a force behind Lynx’s historic season. She’s delivered MVP-level performances all season, raising the bar with 23.8 points and 7.7 rebounds in 25 games.

Napheesa Collier played briefly in the Las Vegas showdown and scored 18 points. The game marked the second-largest blowout in WNBA history as Minnesota demolished Las Vegas with ease by 111-58.

Napheesa Collier went through MRI scans on Sunday and Monday to determine the extent of the injury. Scans revealed good news for Minnesota Lynx as their leader avoided what could’ve been a long-term injury scare. Collier suffered an ankle sprain.

Collier Expected Back By mid-August

According to the reports, Collier will miss two weeks and will be re-evaluated on August 18. She is set to miss the next four games, including two high-stakes matchups against the New York Liberty.

It is the Lynx and the Liberty who are running away with the top two positions in the WNBA points table. The Minnesota Lynx have 24 wins and 5 losses as the league leaders while the New York Liberty have 18 wins and 10 losses and are placed second.

Napheesa Collier currently leads the MVP race, but her injury creates opportunity for others to catch up. Caitlin Clark who has missed almost half of the season has a chance to push her game and get right behind the Minnesota Lynx leader.

A’ja Wilson on the other hand is also closing in on Collier. The reigning MVP is averaging 21.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. The Las Vegas Aces star, unlike Caitlin Clark, is expected to overtake her Lynx opponent this month.
