Errani & Paolini lost to Pegula & Gauff at Wimbledon in 2024.
After shocking defeats in their respective singles matches on Wednesday, Jasmine Paolini and Jessica Pegula return to the 2025 Berlin Tennis Open for some blockbuster doubles action. They will stand across the net with their respective partners – Sara Errani and Ashlyn Krueger – to battle for a spot in the semifinals. Only one pair can prevail in this marquee Italy vs USA duel.
While the duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini has dominated the WTA circuit for an extended period, Jessica Pegula and Ashlyn Krueger have temporarily joined hands for their Wimbledon preparation. As a result, it will be the first meeting between these teams on Thursday. Errani/Paolini defeated Kostyuk/Lys en route to the last eight stage. On the other hand, Krueger/Pegula beat Kasatkina/Vekic in the Round of 16.
Errani/Paolini are both currently ranked No. 6 in the world. The top seeds at the German capital this week, they have a 12-match winning streak going on. The Italian pair earned success at their home tournament in Rome, before capturing the Roland Garros doubles championship. The reigning Olympic gold medalists also won the Qatar Open – they are undoubtedly the team to beat in women’s doubles this year.
The Berlin Tennis Open is the fifth tournament as a pairing for Krueger/Pegula in 2025. After starting off with a win against top seed Hsieh/Ostapenko in Adelaide, they haven’t managed to impress consistently. They have a 2-4 record this year, which includes one walkover and one retirement. The 31-year-old World No. 3 is having a phenomenal year in singles, and will look to brush up her net game ahead of Wimbledon.

Although Errani and Paolini are the bookmakers’ favourites heading into this match, we think Krueger and Pegula could pose a threat to the Italians. It may not be as straightforward as one might assume. We sense that the Paris Olympics gold medalists will go through, but don’t be surprised if the American grass court specialists pull a surprise out of the bag.
Prediction: Errani/Paolini in three sets.
Here are the odds for the women’s doubles quarterfinal on Thursday (as per SkyBet):
Errani/Paolini Win: 1/3
Krueger/Pegula Win: 9/4
