The Sacramento Kings are fortifying their backcourt with a veteran addition, as point guard Russell Westbrook agreed Wednesday to join the team. Turning 37 in November, the nine-time All-Star will sign a one-year minimum deal Thursday, as per ESPN.
Post-De’ Aaron Fox’s trade to San Antonio last year, new GM Scott Perry retooled the roster. Free-agent Dennis Schroder arrives to ignite the team with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Malik Monk, while bigs Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray hold the fort. There was still room for backup point guard with no one seized, and Westbrook just happened to be available at the right time.
Westbrook is now signing with his sixth team since leaving Oklahoma City for Houston in 2019. Fresh from Denver, where he played 75 games last season, he posted 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists on 44.9% from the field and 32.3 % from three. The 2017 MVP reigns as triple-double king and nears top point-guard scorer status.

Sacramento is wagering on the team chemistry to tame his intensity. He teamed with Sabonis and Schroder in OKC and L.A., and shares L.A. upbringing with DeRozan. The Kings may see gains from adding him, with a fitting roster that may elevate the team.
The loaded West with Denver, OKC, Lakers, Clippers, Rockets, and many more looming, each team requires and demands depth for playoffs.
With Westbrook added to the roster, he brings in his veteran savvy, and can help mentor players such as Malik Monk or Keegan Murray. Westbrook has been to the playoffs countless times in his career, and is a former MVP. The Kings have a great roster to start their season, and we’ll see how Westbrook fits alongside others such as Zach LaVine or DeMar DeRozan, who have never played alongside a dynamic point guard in Brodie.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
