Abhinav Goel

Low has previously worked with Leipzig, having served as an assistant coach at the club under Ralph Hasenhuttl and Ralf Rangnick.

RB Leipzig have sacked head coach Marco Rose following a series of disappointing results that have left the club sixth in the Bundesliga standings. Zsolt Low has been appointed as the interim head coach until the end of the season. RB Leipzig announced the decision following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach. The result allowed Gladbach to leapfrog Leipzig into fifth place. It also extended Leipzig’s poor run of form, with the team managing just one win in their last six Bundesliga outings.

“Marco Rose has been relieved of his duties as RB Leipzig head coach with immediate effect,” Leipzig said in a statement, adding that his coaching team have also left.

Marco Rose’s Tenure at RB Leipzig

Marco Rose took the reins at RB Leipzig in September 2022, stepping into a club with high expectations. During his tenure, he led the team to notable successes, including winning the DFB-Pokal in 2023 and securing the German Super Cup in 2023. Under his guidance, Leipzig also achieved UEFA Champions League qualification twice. Rose implemented a high-pressing, attacking style of play that aligned with Leipzig’s club philosophy.

Leipzig were eliminated from the the Champions League in the group stage, winning only one of their eight games, and are currently struggling to qualify for next year’s competition. Rose departs Leipzig with a respectable record, having secured victory in 119 out of his 216 matches across all competitions, giving him a win percentage of 55.09%.

Zsolt Low’s Coaching Background

RB Leipzig have appointed Zsolt Low as head coach on a short-term deal until the end of the season. Low has previously worked with Leipzig, having served as an assistant coach at the club under Ralph Hasenhuttl and Ralf Rangnick from 2015 to 2018. After that, he worked as Thomas Tuchel’s assistant at Paris Saint-Germain (2018-2020), Chelsea (2021-2022), and FC Bayern Munich (2023-2024). However, Low opted not to accompany Tuchel in his move to the England national team, paving the way for his return to Leipzig as head coach.

“We still have the chance to achieve our goals in two competitions,” Low said in a statement released by the club. “We’ll give everything to reach the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin and to get the maximum out of the remaining Bundesliga games.”

Peter Krawietz, who was Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager at Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, will be Low’s assistant-coach.
