Quarterback Change for the Giants? – Brian Daboll Noncommittal on Who Will Start under Center after 0–3 Start to the Season

The New York Giants are off to the worst possible start they could have imagined. Week 3 of the NFL season is in the books, and the Giants have nothing to show on the left-hand side of their record with a 0-3 start to this season.

Their first three games so far have been against the Washington Commanders, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Kansas City Chiefs. The only game in which they showed any promise was the one against arch-rivals, Dallas, but even after a 450-yard passing display with 3 touchdowns, Russell Wilson and his team came out of the game with a loss in overtime.

While the Giants’ defense gave up a boatload of yards and points against the Cowboys, they still have one of the fiercest defensive lines up front and can cause havoc for teams. But it is the situation under center that the fans and media are looking at, with many wanting a change.

Daboll Exploring All Options for Giants’ Quarterback Situation

A day after the Giants collapsed against the Chiefs in their week 3 game on the nationally televised Sunday Night Football (SNF) game, Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll was asked whether the team was considering changing its starting quarterback.

Daboll remained coy in his answers as he expressed that the team is looking at the tape and understanding all their personnel options. He understands that the offense has to be better, but it is not all on an individual, but rather a collective that needs to step up.

“We’re working through all personnel decisions, and we’ll do that over the next few days,” said Daboll. When pressed further, he continued. “We’ll look, we’re going through the tape right now, we’re evaluating everything.”

Earlier, following the Giants’ week 1 loss to the Commanders, Daboll was firm in his decision not to bench Russell Wilson, a view he expressed to the media as well. However, there seems to be a certain hesitation after their latest loss. Although there was no confirmation from the Giants’ coach, the likelihood of a change under center cannot be denied.

Giants Fans Make Their Opinion Heard with Boos in Week 3 Game against the Chiefs

Another frustrating start to the season is not going down well with Giants’ fans, a fact made abundantly clear during the SNF game. Daboll had inserted rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for a play only to take him out immediately.

Not happy with the idea of seeing the player termed as their future under center get only limited snaps, the fans began booing at the sight of Wilson’s return to the field as Dart darted back to the sidelines.

When asked about the booing and what reply he would give to the Giants’ fan base on seeing Dart as the starter, Daboll expressed his confidence in the rookie and the fact that he understands the booing in terms of not being good enough and the lack of scoring and finishing games.

That said, there is still no confirmation on which player will actually start the Giants’ week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, a team that is currently 3-0. Even if Wilson gets benched, fans may still have to wait to see Dart in action, as New York still has a more than capable backup option in Jameis Winston.
