Porter Martone a potential top ten pick in the draft

One of the top draft prospects in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Porter Martone is a Canadian junior ice hockey player who plays the forward position, primarily on the right wing. The right-handed shooter has spent three seasons playing junior-level hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

In 178 games, Martone has accumulated 204 points, which includes 89 goals and 115 assists. Martone has also represented Canada at the junior level on several occasions and has won gold medals at the under-18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup as well as an under-18 national event.

The 18-year-old comes from a hockey-loving family, and the sport has been a mainstay in the Martone household for many years now. Here is a more detailed look at Porter Martone’s family.

Porter Martone’s Parents

Porter Martone was born to Mike and Angela Martone on October 26, 2006, in Peterborough, Ontario. Martone’s father, Mike, was also a hockey player who spent quite a few years playing at the junior and professional levels. His mother, Angela, is a teacher at an elementary school.

Porter Martone Father

Porter’s father, Mike Martone, as mentioned previously, has played plenty of hockey throughout his career. The senior Martone, unlike his son, was a talented defenseman. Nevertheless, he has been the inspiration behind Porter and his sister taking up the sport and continuing to chase their dreams.

Mike Martone played 4 seasons with the Peterborough Petes in the OHL and then played in other hockey leagues such as the AHL, ECHL, and CIS (USports). Following his hockey career, Mike Marone also ventured into teaching and is currently employed at St. Peter Catholic Secondary School.

Porter Martone Mother

Porter Martone’s mother is Angela Martone, who is a teacher by profession. She has been teaching for approximately 13 years and is currently at St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Lakefield, where she teaches the second and third grade students.

As a mother, she could not be happier for her children, as she has shared on the ‘Welcome to the NHL‘ series on YouTube. It is safe to say that Angela Martone has played a crucial role in supporting Porter’s dreams of becoming a professional hockey player. She is especially proud of her son’s tough character and the way he keeps going even when it feels difficult to push harder.

Porter Martone’s Sister

Audrey Martone is the younger sister of Porter Martone. Just like her brother and father, she too is a talented athlete. Audrey has been playing hockey herself and is looking to follow in her brother’s footsteps as a professional athlete.

Both siblings share a close bond with each other and even take to the ice together to work on their hockey skills. As per their father, they push each other to get better, and even though there are occasional fights, they have each other’s backs. Porter, being the elder sibling, shares his feedback and gives pointers to help Audrey improve her game.

The Martone family is quite an excited clan ahead of the NHL draft, as they should be. Porter has the chance to be a top ten draftee and could very well embark on a promising professional career in the NHL. Whether he can outperform his father, only time will tell.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
