Formula 1 witnessed the horrific crash of Anthoine Hubert in Formula 2 at the Spa Francorchamps. The junior series driver was killed in a deadly crash at the famous circuit not too long ago. Anthoine Hubert’s crash in Formula 1 was a turning point in the safety standards of the car and the sport itself. Anthoine Hubert had a special bonding with Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc.

Fondly known as Tonio by Pierre Gasly, the pair were great friends until Anthoine’s crash in Formula 2. Pierre Gasly is known to honour the death of his late friend every year when Formula 1 visits Spa Francorchamps. He places flowers at the crash site of Anthoine Hubert. The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix was a special one for Pierre Gasly. He has been driving a slow and underperforming car all season. However, Gasly able to claim good points for his team at Belgium this year.

Over the years, Pierre Gasly has dedicated his Belgian Grand Prix to his late friend in many ways. He wore the sticker of RIP Tonio around the Halo of his AlphaTauri when he was driving for the team. This year, Pierre Gasly dedicated his points during the Belgian Grand Prix to his late friend.

Anthoine Hubert’s mother was watching the race from the paddock during the Grand Prix. Nathalie Hubert was visibly emotional watching Gasly race through the high-speed corners of the circuit. She was joined in by Pascale Gasly supporting her son during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.

In his post-race interview Gasly says-

“Yeah, no for sure every year it’s an important weekend. Well yesterday we started P8 unfortunately we could not take the start. So, I was quite disappointed. And then yeah, today starting P13 we knew it would be a tough task to make it to the top-10 but not impossible with the conditions. Yeah I am really glad I did it. As you say, Anthoine’s mum is here, my family is here, a lot of support as close from France so it feels good.”

Gasly is the only hope Alpine has in 2025. The team relies on the Frenchman extensively for bringing points and scourging performance out of their every weekend. Gasly has been working hard to get the best out of his car. Unfortunately, he is consistently outperformed by the other drivers in the midfield.
