Phoenix Suns’ Jalen Green Ruled Out After Hamstring Setback, Will Miss Lakers Clash and Season Opener vs Kings

Akash

With the 2025 NBA preseason nearing its close, the Phoenix Suns are set to face the Los Angeles Lakers without their newly acquired star guard, Jalen Green. The team also confirmed he will be unavailable for their regular season opener.

Suns broke the news on social media, sharing head coach Jordan Ott’s update to reporters. Ott revealed that Jalen Green aggravated his hamstring during the team’s trip to China and will be sidelined for the next “couple of weeks.”

“Jordan Ott says Jalen Green ‘reaggravated’ his hamstring strain in China and will be out ‘a couple of weeks.’ Suns fans will have to wait for the explosive guard’s debut for Phoenix,” PHNX Suns posted.

Ott Confirms Green’s Absence, Reassessment Expected in 10 Days

Jalen Green will be re-evaluated in ten days, which rules him out for the Suns’ opening night on October 22 against the Sacramento Kings. The injury means the 23-year-old guard will have to delay his first official appearance in orange and purple, forcing fans to wait a little longer for his much-anticipated debut.

Jalen Green arrived in Phoenix as the headline piece of the Kevin Durant trade, viewed as a dynamic young scorer who could drive the offense alongside Devin Booker. Once considered the future cornerstone of the Houston Rockets after the James Harden era, his move to the Suns was seen as a new chapter full of promise.

However, this setback halts an impressive streak. Green had played every NBA game since 2023, a run of 186 consecutive appearances. That ironman streak officially ends before his first regular season game with the Suns.

Phoenix has started Devin Booker, Allen, Brooks, Dunn, and Ighodaro in all three preseason games so far, but Green’s absence means the lineup will look different against the Lakers. The change could create more opportunities for younger players like Rasheer Fleming and Khaman Maluach.

For the Lakers, head coach JJ Redick confirmed that Luka Doncic and Marcus Smart will make their preseason debuts. Meanwhile, LeBron James, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Jaxson Hayes are all ruled out.

The Suns enter the matchup with a 2-1 preseason record, highlighted by a 103-81 victory over Los Angeles earlier this month. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Arizona time, with Phoenix set to regroup before hosting the Kings on opening night.
