Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to begin his 13th NBA season with the Milwaukee Bucks, but questions about his long-term future continue to swirl. Reports last week indicated the two-time MVP explored trade possibilities after another early playoff exit, with the New York Knicks emerging as his only preferred destination.
Despite the speculation, Giannis Antetokounmpo has reiterated his commitment to Milwaukee. Still, he acknowledged the uncertainty that comes with professional sports, admitting he is “human” and always striving to remain competitive. For now, his focus remains on guiding a retooled Bucks roster back into NBA championship contention.
The 30-year-old forward also revealed his vision for life after the NBA during a candid interview in Greece. Appearing on “The 2Night Show” on ANT1, Giannis Antetokounmpo said he intends to finish his career in his home country.
Giannis Antetokounmpo: "I told my wife, she looked at me. I say 'what do you prefer, to stay in Greece or do you prefer to go to Milwaukke'. She looks at me and says 'In Anthens' "

“I’m 30 years old, I can play in the NBA until I’m 36-38. I’d like to end my career in a Greek team, why not?” he explained. He added that once his NBA journey concludes, he does not plan to remain in the United States, naming clubs such as Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, or Aris as potential destinations.
His comments surfaced alongside rumors that his family had already relocated to Greece, speculation he has since denied. The timing also coincided with a milestone for the Antetokounmpo family, as the Bucks signed his younger brother Alex to a two-way contract. With Giannis, Thanasis, and Alex now on the roster, Milwaukee became the first NBA team to feature three brothers simultaneously.
Giannis Antetokounmpo remains under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks through at least the 2027–28 season, anchoring the team on both ends of the floor. Last season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists across 67 games, reaffirming his dominance and efficiency.
As Milwaukee prepares to open the 2025–26 campaign at home against the Washington Wizards on October 22, Antetokounmpo’s immediate goal is to lead the Bucks back to the top of the NBA. Yet his remarks in Greece suggest that when the final chapter of his career arrives, it will likely be written on home soil.
