Warriors Face Uncertainty as Jimmy Butler Sidelined With Injury After Practice Setback

Akash

The Golden State Warriors are preparing for the upcoming season with questions surrounding forward Jimmy Butler’s health. Butler, entering his first full season with the team after a mid-season trade from the Miami Heat, is dealing with an ankle sprain suffered in practice last Friday.

Head coach Steve Kerr confirmed Monday that Jimmy Butler will miss Tuesday’s preseason game in Portland. The Warriors remain hopeful he can return for Friday’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Clippers. “Jimmy Butler is out tomorrow night in Portland now. He had an ankle sprain in practice on Friday. Steve Kerr said the team thought it was minor, but it remains a little swollen. Hope is he returns for Friday’s preseason finale.”

Butler had already missed Sunday’s preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, though at the time it was described as an excused absence. The 36-year-old forward had appeared in the team’s first two preseason games before the injury. His status will continue to be monitored as Golden State approaches its regular season opener on Tuesday, Oct. 21 against the Lakers.

If Jimmy Butler is unable to play, Kerr is expected to turn to Jonathan Kuminga to fill the role. The Warriors are counting on Butler to provide a reliable secondary scoring option behind Steph Curry as they look to remain competitive in a crowded Western Conference.

Warriors See Immediate Impact From Jimmy Butler After Arrival

Butler joined the Golden State Warriors last season and quickly established himself as a strong fit in Kerr’s system. Splitting time between the Heat and Warriors, he averaged 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals across 55 games while playing 31.7 minutes per contest. With a full preseason of workouts and practice, the team anticipated Butler would be even more comfortable in his role this year.

Now entering his 15th NBA season, Jimmy Butler has built a reputation as one of the league’s most versatile and tenacious players. Over his career, he has earned six All-Star selections, five All-NBA honors and five All-Defensive team nods.

He has also been known for his postseason performances, averaging 21.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game across multiple playoff runs. Golden State will continue to monitor Butler’s recovery closely, with hopes he will be ready when the regular season begins.
