Pete Prisco ranks Jalen Hurts against the NFL’s elite quarterbacks

Pete Prisco didn’t hesitate when asked to compare Jalen Hurts with some of the league’s best. He ranked Hurts against several top quarterbacks, making his stance clear.

“To me, that’s easy. That’s Jalen Hurts, and that’s no slight to Jalen Hurts. I think he’s going to be special.”

Prisco placed Hurts above most of his peers but admitted a few matchups were closer.

On C.J. Stroud, he leaned toward the Texans’ quarterback, citing his impressive rookie season despite challenges.

“C.J. Stroud, based on the rookie season. I thought there were a lot of things working against him last year, but I still take C.J. Stroud.”

With Justin Herbert, he called it a tight competition but sided with the Chargers’ QB.

“I would take Justin Herbert. I’m big on Justin Herbert, but that’s pretty close, to be honest with you.”

The toughest comparison? Trevor Lawrence. Prisco saw Hurts making strides while Lawrence struggled last season.

“This one’s really close. Can I call it even? How about that? Because I think Jalen Hurts has made big improvements. I thought Trevor Lawrence went in the wrong direction last year, so I’ll call that even.”

He did, however, say that for now, he’d go with Hurts but left the door open for Caleb Williams in the future.

“I think Caleb Williams has a chance to move past them. But right now, the way Jalen Hurts is playing, I would take Jalen Hurts.”

How Jalen Hurts compares to the top 5 quarterbacks

When stacking Hurts up against other top quarterbacks, Prisco emphasized Hurts’ ability to throw, run, and lead.

“I would take Jalen Hurts. I think his ability to throw the football, move, run—everything. I would take Jalen Hurts.”

With Dak Prescott, Prisco acknowledged Prescott’s consistency but still gave the edge to Hurts.

“I think Dak Prescott is one of the more underappreciated players in the NFL. Let’s not forget he led the NFL in touchdown passes two years ago.”

On Baker Mayfield, he sided with the Buccaneers’ QB, citing his resurgence.

“It’s close, but I would take Baker Mayfield. I’m big on Baker Mayfield. I thought he had a great year, and let’s not forget Baker Mayfield was pretty darn good with the Browns. His rookie season got hurt and then kind of has rejuvenated his career. So I take Baker Mayfield.”
