Paolo Badosa and Emma Navarro will met for the first time since the 2024 US Open quarterfinals.
The 8th-seeded Paula Badosa will take on world No. 9 Emma Navarro in the second Round of the WTA German Open. The Spaniard ace overcame Eva Lys in straight sets to make a prominent start to the competition, while Navarro got better of Marta Kostyuk 6-6. 6-3 to reach the second round. It will be an exciting battle between world No. 9 and world No. 10.
Paula Badosa looked solid in the injury-hit season and showed great intent on grass. She made a dominant start after dispatching Eva Lys 6-1, 6-3 in just 60 minutes in her Berlin debut. Badosa has reached nine quarterfinals over the last 12 months. Meanwhile, she has played one WTA semifinals on grass court which came in the Bad Homburg last year.
Her real test on this surface awaits and she would look to bring her best version against Navarro. Badosa had a semifinal run at the Australian Open, where she caused an upset over Coco Gauff before losing to Aryna Sabalenka. She also reached the Strasbourg quarterfinals and the third round at Roland Garros.
World #10 Paula Badosa plays a very good match to easily beat local wild card Eva Lys 6-1, 6-3 and reach the 2nd round in Berlin.

Paula had a solid grass court season in 2024, it was where her 'comeback' started… pic.twitter.com/yldjSq5phm
Emma Navarro, the US tennis star, failed to replicate last year’s form in 2025. The American ace reached the quarterfinals at Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon last year but hasn’t won consecutive matches in 8 of the last nine WTA tournaments. Navarro overcame Kostyuk in straight sets, courtesy of her opponent’s 43 unforced errors. She has four grass court quarterfinal appearance and it would surely give some confidence in Berlin Open. Navarro also got a chance to playing alongside world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the US Open mixed doubles event.

It could be one of the finest matchups in the second-round of the German Open. Badosa brings heavy baseline and a mental toughness to the matchups. She has a good record against the American players, including this year’s Australian Open win over Coco Gauff. However, the grass-court is the fortress of Navarro and she chases her fifth grass-court quarterfinals. Long rallies might disturb Badosa’ tempo in the game.
Prediction: Badosa to win in three sets.

Badosa enters as the favorite at -165, reflecting her recent form but we cannot write off Navarro, a +130 underdog. Badosa’s heavy-hitting baseline power will deny Navarro a potential chance to win the game. The inconsistency of the American ace makes Badosa favorite in the game.
Here are the betting odds according to BetMGM:
Paula Badosa: -165
Emma Navarro: +130
