Paul Pogba in Talks Over Sensational Return to Football After Two-Year Exile

Abhinav Goel

Pogba, who has been sidelined due to a doping ban, is now seeking to revive his career and find a new home.

After a long absence from the game, Paul Pogba could soon be back on the pitch and in the United States. According to reports, D.C. United are seriously interested in signing the French superstar, marking what would be their most high-profile acquisition since the arrival of Wayne Rooney in 2018.

Pogba has already been seen attending several MLS matches this year, including games featuring LAFC and Inter Miami, fueling speculation that his move across the Atlantic is imminent. If the deal is finalized, Pogba would become one of the league’s biggest acquisitions in recent years.

D.C. United Own Paul Pogba’s Discovery Rights

Pogba, who has been sidelined due to a doping ban, is now seeking to revive his career and find a new home. In a major boost for D.C. United, the MLS club already owns the discovery rights to the World Cup-winning midfielder, giving them a clear advantage should negotiations progress smoothly.

Still just 31 years old, Pogba’s experience and winning pedigree could transform D.C. United’s midfield. Talks are said to be ongoing and while details of the proposed deal are still under wraps, there is cautious optimism around the club that a blockbuster agreement could soon be finalized.

Notably, Pogba has been without a club since his mutual departure from Juventus in late 2023. The French star initially faced a four-year suspension after testing positive for testosterone in September 2023, but the ban was later reduced to 18 months, making him eligible to return to competitive football in March 2025.

D.C. United are also reportedly monitoring Kevin De Bruyne, who has confirmed he will leave Manchester City this summer after ten years at the Ethiad. While Inter Miami currently hold De Bruyne’s discovery rights, reports suggest they are unlikely to pursue the Belgian, potentially opening a door for D.C. United to swoop in.
