The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 season ended in agony on Sunday, Week 15 of the NFL, as a perfect storm of results officially eliminated them from playoff contention. The Buffalo Bills pull off a comeback win against the Patriots, securing their spot. The Texans edged the Cardinals, strengthening their AFC hold. The Jaguars beat the Jets, clinching another key win. And in Kansas City, the Chargers escaped with a 16-13 thriller over the Chiefs, sealing the dynasty’s fate. At 6-8, the Chiefs will not win their division for the first time in over a decade and they also lost their quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a devastating injury.

To top it all off, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a devastating torn ACL in his left knee late in the loss. With 1:53 remaining, Mahomes rolled right and got sacked by Chargers’ Da’Shawn Hand. His knee buckled on impact, silencing Arrowhead Stadium, as he clutched his knee in pain, limping off the field. Postgame, the Chiefs confirmed the tear on X, noting surgical options are under review and now his 2026 season availability hangs in the balance.

The eerie parallels to Tom Brady’s career are uncanny. Both quarterbacks entered their ninth NFL seasons with three Super Bowl rings and lost the prior year’s Super Bowl; Mahomes to Eagles in 2024, Brady to the Giants 2007. And both tore their ACLs the following season with Brady in Week 1 of 2008 against the Chiefs, ironically. That early injury allowed Brady a full offseason rehab, returning to MVP form in 2009 and winning four more rings.

Mahomes’ Week 15 timing is crueler, cutting his season short and clouding next year’s start. Yet, like Brady, resilience defines Mahomes and at 30, he has already rewritten records with his arm talent and mobility-now tested like never before.

Mahomes Poised for Multiple More Super Bowls, Vows Epic Comeback

Despite the setback, Mahomes remains the NFL’s elite quarterback who has won more than most quarterbacks in history. The 2x MVP has already won three Super Bowls and led to Chiefs to a decade long dominance at AFC West. While the Chiefs need certain changes to be made, history favors him as Brady’s post-ACL run proved age and injury don’t dim greatness. He is still in his prime and could win more Super Bowls in the near future.

Mahomes also posted a defiant message to his fans which read, “Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever.” Fans flooded replies with support, fueling hope for possible an epic comeback in the future.
