Paige Bueckers Sets New WNBA All-Time Rookie Record in Valkyries vs. Wings Game

The former UConn women’s basketball star became franchise’s rookie all-time scoring leader.

Paige Bueckers is having a tremendous year at the WNBA after getting picked as the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 draft. The rookie guard is setting milestones in her rookie season. She set a new record on her team’s 84-80 loss against the Valkyries on Thursday. On Wednesday, she also received her third WNBA Rookie of the Month Award, as she recently claimed the honor for August.

Paige Bueckers Reaches 4th in All-Time Points Scored for Rookies in WNBA History

Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers accomplished impressive feat on Thursday night during the Wings’ game against the Golden State Valkyries. The former UConn women’s basketball star surpassed her teammate, Arike Ogunbowale to become franchise’s rookie all-time scoring leader. Before this match, she had 623 points in the WNBA season and she needed 7 more point to set a franchise record.

Bueckers was sitting at sixth spot in all-time points scored for rookies in WNBA history before entering the game on Thursday. She surpassed Arike Ogunbowale (630) and Cappie Pondexter (624) to reached fourth in the tally. The No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft is behind A’ja Wilson (682), Seimone Augustus (744) and Caitlin Clark (769).

Bueckers still has a chance to surpass A’ja Wilson in the all-time list with two more games to go. Either way, the rookie guard would be proud of her performance this season. Bueckers is the frontrunner to win the 2025 Rookie of the Year honor considering her performance.

Meanwhile, the Wings would not remember this season as they dropped to 9-32 in the regular season after a 84-80 loss to the Valkyries. The franchise is in rebuilding phase and they would be a formidable side in next two years. Dallas lost the regular-season series 3-1 to Golden State. At halftime, they had the control on the game but their second half performance haunted them again.
