Paige Bueckers on Verge of Creating WNBA Record with Emergence as Favorite to Win Rookie of the Year Award

Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers wreaked havoc in her debut WNBA season. Having stepped into the WNBA on the back of a championship season in the NCAA, fans and fraternity had high hopes for her. And, Bueckers didn’t disappoint. The former UConn star was selected as the first overall pick in the 2025 draft by the Dallas Wings. Following a few initial hiccups, Bueckers kicked off her WNBA career with full force.

Within no time, she emerged as one of the top performers of this season and established herself as a key player for the Wings. Though Dallas didn’t have a fruitful season, Bueckers quickly got recognition for her skillset and athletic excellence. The 23-year-old not only ended up on the list of favorites to win Rookie of the Year but also emerged as a clear favorite to take the honor home with overwhelming odds.

Bueckers is a top favorite across many platforms to win the title. However, apart from it, she is also on the verge of creating WNBA history. According to Polymarket Hoops, she would have the fewest wins and the lowest win % by a WNBA ROTY winner ever.

Notably, the Wings could only manage to win nine victories throughout the season, only one of which came without Bueckers in the lineup. She played 34 games in rookie season, which totals for a poor winning percentage of 23%.

Wings Forward Makes MVP Claims for Paige Bueckers

While it is almost certain that Paige Bueckers is going to win the Rookie of the Year Award, her teammate, Diamond Miller has made another bold claim about her. The Wings’ forward backed her teammate and said that she would bring MVP honors in her career. Miller said, “Come on, I mean, I don’t know the statistics about everything, but she’s probably leading in most of them for this team.”

She added, “She’s really a dynamic player. She’s probably going to be MVP one day in this league. She’s really talented. I think she deserves it — first team, too.”

Notably, Bueckers has had a memorable rookie season highlighted by some remarkable feats. Earlier this season, she became the fastest rookie in the history of the league to reach 450 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists in just 25 games. Not only this, but later during a clash against the Los Angeles Sparks, she recorded 44 points, becoming the first player in the league to score 40 or more while shooting at least 80 percent from the field.

Currently, she is averaging 19.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 47.0% from the field, 32.2% from beyond the arc and 88.8% from the free-throw line.
