Oskar Olausson Joins Avalanche as Oliver Kylington Moves to Injured Reserve

Injury-Plagued Colorado Elevates Olausson Amid Kylington's Extended Absence

The Colorado Avalanche have assigned defenseman Oliver Kylington to the injured reserve and called up forward Oskar Olausson from the Colorado Eagles of the AHL. Kylington was moved to the IR retroactively from November 27th due to an upper-body injury. The 27-year-old was initially viewed as being week-to-week but was reassessed to month-to-month last Saturday, indicating that his comeback is definitely not forthcoming.

Kylington was probably glad to leave 2024 behind him, as it was a bumpy year for the former second-round selection. Kylington had to agree to a one-year contract in free agency last summer and has played infrequently in Colorado this season, appearing in only eight games and recording just two points. At one moment this year, the Avalanche experimented with Kylington in a forward position, but it did not yield much success.

Olausson, a former first-round selection (28th overall in 2021), is currently in his third season as a professional. He has made few NHL appearances, playing only twice and not recording a point. He has not achieved significant offensive success in the AHL, recording 27 goals, 23 assists, and a -19 plus/minus over 129 AHL games.

The 22-year-old last participated in NHL play in December 2023, appearing in only one game. He will aspire for an extended stay this time and may achieve it given the injuries that have accumulated for the Avalanche this season.
