The series becomes a best-of-three

The Nuggets-Thunder series has lived up to the hype. Except for Game 2, each game has been decided in the clutch. Game 4 was no different. The first quarter saw Thunder eke out a 9-point lead, as the overall total in the quarter was an unbelievable 25 points(tied for playoffs record). 

The Nuggets clapped back in the second quarter, cutting the lead to six. The Nuggets then jumped to a 6-point lead to end the third quarter. Then Nuggets’ bench showed up as Cason Wallace made a couple of made two big-time threes in the final quarter to take the lead. 

Later, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Jalen Williams finished the job in one of the ugliest games you’d ever see. Williams shot just 2/13 while Dort shot 2/10. For the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic continued to struggle. He shot just 7/22, and has a below 40% shooting clip in the last three games. Credit goes to the Thunder defense as well as Jokic’s fatigued body.

Apart from that, the bench was the biggest difference. Thunder’s bench accounted for 35 points compared to just 14 by the Nuggets. Overall, we are in for an exciting window ahead as both teams have seen the best and worst of each other.

The overall scoring has shifted dramatically. The first two gams produced 240 or more points, going “over” the mark in an emphatic manner. Meanwhile, Game 3 accounted for 217 and Game 4 a measly 179 points(around 50 points below the projected score!). 

Thus, defense has taken center stage. But will it remain the same? I doubt it and see some major offensive adjustments for Game 5. I was proven wrong for Game 4 when I chose both teams to go for a 110+ score.

But I will stick with my Game 4 prediction and believe the total will leap over 225 here. Meanwhile, the bookmakers have revised the projections from late 220s to early 220s.

Jamal Murray to score over 20.5 points: Murray followed an impressive 27-point outing in Game 3 with a 17-point showing in Game 4. He has hovered around the projected over/under in half of the games. I believe he will have a special performance here.

Isaiah Hartenstein to grab over 8.5 rebounds: The Thunder center pulled down 14 rebounds in Game 4 after a 10-rebound performance in Game 3. He has gone “over” the projected mark in three of the four games. I believe he will do so again. 

Chet Holmgren to block over 2.5 shots: The Thunder’s premier defender had no blocks in Game 4 but had 3 or more in two of the three games before. I see him rejecting 2+ shots here.

The Thunder will be buoyed after the close win in Game 4. They will also be confident, recalling the 40+ point triumph in Game 2. But don’t underestimate the Nuggets. They rise when the chips are down. 

I see them putting up another inspiring performance here. The bookmakers have lost faith in them and have given a -10ish spread in favor of the Thunder. I beg to differ. I expect Denver to cover the spread and may even win the game.
