If Anunoby goes out for an extended period, it could be a big blow to New York Knicks.

The New York Knicks’s home winning streak was at stake when they hosted the Los Angeles Lakers at MSG on Saturday night. The Knicks lost the game 128-112 and also faced a major injury setback during the game. Knicks forward OG Anunoby sustained a non-contact injury in the loss.

During the third quarter, OG Anunoby sustained a right foot sprain which appeared to be a non-contact injury. As per ESPN, the 27-year-old suffered the injury when he got a pass from Karl-Anthony Towns and tried to attempt a 3-pointer but then appeared to plant his right foot awkwardly.

New York Coach Tom Thibodeau called a timeout immediately but Anunoby didn’t recover and limped to the locker room. Anunoby played for 17 minutes and he was also on the bench in the last six minutes of the second quarter. He tallied 13 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist, on impressive 5-7 shooting before leaving the court.

Anunoby had a hamstring injury in last season’s conference semifinals. According to ESPN, the Knicks star has missed more than 70 games since his rookie year in 2017-18. He joined the New York Knicks last season and played a vital role in the team’s impressive campaign this season. He is averaging 16.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game this season.

The Knicks were already missing Josh Hart in the game due to injury. If Anunoby goes out for an extended period, it could be a big blow to New York. Anunoby ranks third in the league in total minutes played. As of Feb 1, he has played 1761 minutes so far this season and it is more than he has played in total for 5 of his previous 7 seasons.
