“Not falling out of love with the process”- LeBron James reflects on his form after reaching 50,000 career points

LeBron James scripted history on Tuesday.

LeBron James and records are now synonyms. Already sitting atop several NBA feats, the Los Angeles Lakers legend added another feather to his cap. On Tuesday, March 4, the 21-time All-Star scripted history by becoming the first ever player to reach the 50,000 career points.

James achieved the feat during the Lakers’ 136-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The 40-year-old needed just one point to breach the 50k-point mark when he entered the arena. As he hit a three-pointer in the first few minutes, James became the first ever player to reach the milestone.

Despite being the oldest active player in NBA, James is showing no signs of slowing down. Earlier, he shattered the record of being the oldest player to become the player of the month. He achieved the feat when he was adjudged the title for the month of February. He now also holds the record for the most Player of the Month titles, with 41.

After Tuesday’s game, James opened up on his red-hot form. The four-time NBA MVP revealed that the secret behind sustaining this level of play at this age is to keep loving the process and never fall out of love with it.

When asked about the factor that keeps him going, James said, “Just not falling out of love with the process.” “Continue to fall in love with the process, that’s the hardest thing every single year. The long season is 82 games, 40-41 on the road, a lot of travel.”

“As you get older, it affects you even differently and family. It affects people differently. So the process of trying not to fall out of love with the process is always tough,” he added.

James finished the night with 34 points, eight rebounds and six assists, to lead the Lakers to their seventh straight win. His regular-season record is at 41,871 points and 8,162 points in the playoffs.

LeBron James creates franchise history with Luka Doncic

Apart from being the founding member of the 50,000 career-point club, LeBron James set another record during the Tuesday-night game. As he recorded 34 points, he and Luka Doncic became the first duo in the history of the franchise to record 30 points and five three-pointers.

Luka, who was playing his ninth game in the purple and golden colors, finished with 30 points, eight rebounds and 15 assists. He had six three-pointers.

The Lakers will aim to continue their winning momentum as they clash against the Knicks on Thursday, March 6.
