Iconic Wrigley Field to Host NHL Winter Classic with Stunning Design
The National Hockey League (NHL) has unveiled an illustrated preview of its acquisition of Wrigley Field, the venue for Major League Baseball’s Chicago Cubs, for the Discover NHL Winter Classic outdoor matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues on December 31 at 4 p.m. CT/5 PM ET. A restricted quantity of tickets can be bought through Ticketmaster, the NHL’s official ticketing partner.
The NHL and Seattle’s Analog Heart took cues from Chicago’s renowned bridge designs, rivers, community parks, and the brick and ivy that decorate Wrigley Field’s outfield wall during the baseball season.

The NHL standard rink will be centrally located inside Wrigley Field, positioned over a frozen Chicago River, encircled by park sidewalks and bridges.
Revealed sections of depicted water amid the snowy and icy terrain showcase an actual auxiliary ice rink encompassed by the lush vegetation recognized from Wrigley Field and legendary parks in Chicago. The icy river behind the team benches showcases the iconic bridge designs and walkways that symbolize the Windy City. A distinct ice surface in left field will accommodate local youth hockey players during the game. The NHL will reveal its full entertainment plans in the next few weeks.
