NFL Sunday Games Week 9 – Key Takeaways and Results As Vikings down Lions, Chiefs Fall to Bills, Panthers Shock Packers, and Seahawks Crush Commanders
The NFL’s Week 9 continued with plenty of intense matchups with a 12-game Sunday slate after the Baltimore Ravens crushed the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football just a couple of days ago. Apart from a few games, most of the NFL Sunday games were close contests with a couple of surprising results along the way.
Vikings Hold On for Crucial Win Over Lions
The Minnesota Vikings pulled off a crucial win as far as their hopes of making a push for the playoffs are concerned. Despite a decent passing game by Jared Goff, in which he threw for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns, as Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta both finished with 97 receiving yards, the Vikings were able to limit the Lions’ run game to just 65 yards.
Aaron Jones led the Vikings’ run game with 78 yards, and J.J. McCarthy’s return saw him finish with a mediocre stat line of 143 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. Nevertheless, Minnesota came through with a 27-24 win in Detroit.
Patriots Move to 7–2 with a Close Win Over Falcons
New England’s excellent run continues with yet another win on Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons. After taking a 21-14 lead at the half, the Patriots let the Falcons back in the game in the fourth quarter but were able to hold on to a 24-23 lead. DeMario Douglas had 4 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown to lead the way for New England.
As for the Falcons, wide receiver Drake London’s heroics were not enough to help Atlanta over the line. London finished with 118 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns from 9 catches. However, it was the Falcons’ lack of effectiveness on third downs that cost them dearly, converting just 1 of 10 attempts.
Daniel Jones Throws 3 Interceptions in Loss against Steelers
The Indianapolis Colts dropped just their second game of the season, losing 27-20 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers’ defense was the key to the game, forcing a total of 6 turnovers, including 3 fumbles and 3 interceptions. Indianapolis was a perfect 5/5 on fourth down conversions, yet could not manage to keep its turnovers in check, resulting in a loss.
Interestingly, the Steelers’ rushing attack was held to just 38 yards, while the Colts’ run game finished with just 55 yards as Jonathan Taylor also had a quiet day at the office, finishing with just 45 yards. Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce each finished with 115 receiving yards for the Colts.
Bears Clinch Thriller over Bengals despite Joe Flacco’s Huge Game
The Bears vs Bengals was the highest-scoring game of Sunday with a total of 89 combined points. Despite offensive heroics from quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Cincinnati fell to a 47-42 loss and moved to a 3-6 record on the season.
Flacco was dominant under center, finishing the game with 470 passing yards and 4 touchdowns, but he also had a couple of picks on the day. Tee Higgins had 121 receiving yards and a pair of touchdown grabs, while Ja’Marr Chase ended with 111 receiving yards.
As for the Bears, Caleb Williams had a clean game as he finished with 280 yards and 3 touchdowns, but running back Kyle Monangai had 26 carries for 176 yards, while Williams added 53 yards on the ground as well. Tight end Colston Loveland caught 6 passes for 118 yards, including two touchdowns.
Packers Offense Struggles in Low-Scoring Loss to the Panthers
The Green Bay Packers’ offense was held to just 13 points as they succumbed to a 16-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers after a walk-off 49-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald. In a low-scoring affair, the Panthers held a 7-6 lead at the half, and neither team was able to have offensive success in the second half as well.
Jordan Love had 273 passing yards, but no touchdowns and 1 interception, while Josh Jacobs finished with 87 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs was the pick of the pass catchers with 91 receiving yards. Carolina’s offense was propelled by another excellent showing by running back Rico Dowdle, who finished with 130 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.
Near Perfect Josh Allen and James Cook Lead Bills to Win Over Chiefs
Josh Allen and the Bills came into the game against the Chiefs as underdogs despite playing at home. The lopsided rivalry in the regular season continued as Allen once again got the better of Patrick Mahomes and now has a 5-1 head-to-head lead over the Chiefs’ superstar QB.
Allen finished the game, completing 23 of 26 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown, while James Cook was his usual reliable self as he finished with 114 rushing yards. Tight end Dalton Kincaid had an impressive outing with 101 receiving yards and a touchdown from his 6 receptions.
Meanwhile, Mahomes was held to 250 passing yards, no touchdowns, and a pick, even as the Chiefs’ run game could manage just 79 yards. Rashee Rice was the pick of the receivers, finishing with 80 yards from 4 catches.
Darnold Outplays Daniels As Seahawks Dominate Commanders on SNF
Sam Darnold came out all guns blazing as he led the Seahawks to a dominant 38-14 win over Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders on the road. Finishing with 330 yards, 4 touchdowns, and a pick, Darnold started the game going a perfect 16 of 16 before finally missing a pass. Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued his stellar season as he hauled in 8 catches for 129 yards.
Jayden Daniels could manage only 153 passing yards as the Seahawks put up a defensive masterclass. The Commanders’ quarterback was picked off once and sacked 4 times, while also being under pressure throughout the game.
Week 9 of the 2025-26 NFL season saw a total of 12 games being played on Sunday, with the Commanders and Seahawks bringing an end to an eventful day with their SNF clash.
