NFL Sunday Games Week 8 – Key Takeaways and Results As Jets Win First Game, Eagles and Bills Dominate on the Ground, Broncos Crush Cowboys, and Aaron Rodgers Loses First Game against Packers

Devavrat Kulkarni

With as many as 6 teams having their bye week in week 8, the Sunday slate of games was reduced to just 11 games. However, there was no let-up in the quality of football, and while some results were as expected, there were some surprises as well in the NFL Sunday Games, week 8.

Ravens Back to Winning Ways with Victory Over Bears

Heading into their bye week last week, the Baltimore Ravens had much to ponder with a 1-5 record and a week 8 matchup against an in-form Chicago Bears team. The Ravens came into the game once again without Lamar Jackson, who is still recovering from his hamstring issue.

Tyler Huntley started under center and played a decent game, while Derrick Henry had 71 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns as the Ravens defeated the Bears 30-16 in a must-win game.

Jets Rally Over Bengals in Fourth Quarter for First Win of the Season

Last week, the Joe Flacco-led Cincinnati Bengals won a thriller over the Steelers, and it looked like Cincinnati finally had an answer. On Sunday, they put up 38 points on the New York Jets’ defense, but gave away 39 themselves.

The Jets, who were behind 31-16 at the start of the final quarter, went on to score 23 points as running back Breece Hall finished with 133 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Jets finally won their first game of the season, while the Bengals now fall to 3-5.

James Cook and Bills Crush Panthers

The Bills rode on the back of running back James Cook in their crushing win over the Panthers on Sunday. Cook, who had a monstrous first half, continued to torment Carolina throughout the game, finishing with 216 yards and 2 touchdowns from just 19 carries.

Andy Dalton stepped in for the injured Bryce Young, but the veteran quarterback was unable to keep the Panthers’ winning momentum going as Carolina succumbed to a huge 40-6 loss.

Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby Run Giants to the Ground

Week 8 saw yet another chapter in the NFC East rivalry between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. After a surprising win over the Eagles just a couple of weeks ago, the Giants were looking to make it 2 wins out of 2, but Philly had other ideas.

The Eagles have gotten their season back on track with 2 wins in a row. Jalen Hurts finished with 179 passing yards and 4 touchdowns, while Saquon Barkley had 150 yards and a touchdown from just 14 carries. Tank Bigsby added another 104 yards from just 9 carries as the Eagles ran riot over the Giants and closed out an easy 38-20 win.

Broncos Win Big over Cowboys

The Denver Broncos continued their strong run to the season with yet another dominating win over the Dallas Cowboys. Leading the AFC West, the Broncos are 5-2 and on a 4-game win streak.

Bo Nix had 247 yards and threw 4 touchdown passes, while J.K. Dobbins added 111 yards from 15 carries. Dak Prescott had a rough day, throwing 2 picks and was held to just 188 passing yards, going 19 of 31 as the Cowboys fell 44-24 to a 3-4-1 record.

Jordan Love and the Packers Deny Aaron Rodgers a Win against All 32 Teams

Aaron Rodgers came into the SNF game facing the Green Bay Packers for the first time and had the chance to earn a win against all 32 teams in the league. Had he been able to do so, he would have joined a select group of quarterbacks, including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Brett Favre, to achieve this feat.

Trailing for much of the game, the Packers found a different gear in the final quarter, outscoring the Steelers 21-6. Jordan Love had a spectacular outing as he finished with 360 yards and 3 touchdowns as he completed 29 of his 37 pass attempts.

Results Table

Of the 11 games that took place on Sunday, the final game of the day was the Sunday Night Football (SNF) matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here is the list of results for the Sunday slate of games in week 8.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
