A triple-header on Christmas Day for NFL fans!
Christmas Day games in the NFL bring about a very different vibe as fans get the chance to celebrate the holiday with their friends and family while tuning into enthralling football action at the same time. The hugely popular holiday season is a time to unwind and kick back after a hard year of work. And, what better way to do so than to enjoy a full day of NFL Christmas games?
Christmas Day games have recently become a staple of the NFL, with at least one game being played since the 2021 season. However, these games have been a part of the league for many years prior.
The first NFL games to be played on Christmas were two postseason games during the 1971 divisional round, when the Dallas Cowboys took on the Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins played against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The first regular season Christmas game was held in 1989, in which the Vikings defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. Since then, these games have been held every now and then until 2021. 2 games were held in the 2024 season, which were telecast on Netflix for the first time.

All three games scheduled on this day are inter-divisional matchups which are bound to create tremendous fanfare. The Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders have been a huge rivalry dating back many years. Similarly, the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings also have a budding rivalry, and this game will be a fun one to watch, considering both teams had incredible seasons last year.
Of course, the third game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos, being a TNF game, will also be an electric game. These two teams have always had tough clashes in the AFC West and this game will be no different.
The Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs have both featured in 5 Christmas Day games, while the Ravens, Packers, Broncos, Dolphins, Titans, Cardinals, and Vikings have all played in 4 Christmas games.
The Philadelphia Eagles boast the best record, going 3-0 on Christmas, while the Ravens and Packers have each won 3 of their 4. Looking forward to this season, fans can continue to enjoy the holiday spirit with a triple-header of games on Christmas Day.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
