The 2024 NFL season has entertained us for 18 weeks and what a night we had yesterday! The Broncos beating the Chiefs 38-0 knocked out the Bengals and the Dolphins, the Lions established their dominance over the Vikings to claim the NFC top seed. Aaron Rodgers and co. beat Miami in what could be Rodgers’ last game for the Jets.

With the completion of 18 weeks, we are officially into the phase known as NFL Black Monday and the Black Monday firings are in full swing! But us football fans are greedy as we always want more. So, is Monday Night Football over? And if yes, why is there no Monday Night Football in week 18? Here are the answers to all your questions.

Is Monday Night Football Over?

Sadly yes, Monday Night Football is over. We are officially done with Monday Night Football as the NFL regular season ends on Sunday in week 18. The last Monday Night Football game for the 2024 season was played between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers.

But why is there no Monday Night Football in week 18? There is a good explanation behind no MNF game for the last week of the regular season.

Why is there no Monday Night Football in Week 18?

Week 18 Sunday Night Football serves as the last game of the season because the NFL doesn’t schedule a Monday Night Football game in week 18. There are some key reasons why the league refrains from keeping a MNF game as the last game of the season.

Due to playoff implications in the last week, the NFL tries to ensure fairness by kicking off several games at the same time. This eliminates the possibility of unfair advantage or disadvantage that a team can take from knowing the outcome of other games.

Wild Card games for the NFL 2024 postseason are set. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions are the #1 seed from the AFC and the NFC respectively. Other 12 teams will go up against each other to qualify for the divisional round.
