NFL Announces Change in Pro Bowl Schedule as Event Set to Become Part of Super Bowl Week!

NFL Pro Bowl undergoes another change in just three years!

The NFL announced a major change to the schedule of the Pro Bowl games. The entertaining, annual event, which used to take place about a week before the Super Bowl, will now become a part of the Super Bowl week itself, beginning with the 2026 edition.

“Building on our strong partnerships with the Bay Area Host Committee and ESPN, we’re thrilled to make the 2026 Pro Bowl Games presented by Verizon part of Super Bowl week, our biggest platform of the year, elevating flag football and our best players in a way that’s never been done before,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL executive vice president of events, international and club business. “The Pro Bowl Games will not only be an exciting showcase of our best talent, but also a taste of the elite athleticism and dynamic action we can expect to see on the Olympic stage.”

Why has the Pro Bowl Schedule changed?

Thus, the 2026 NFL Pro Bowl will be held on the Tuesday of Super Bowl LX week. With the event schedule now shifted to Super Bowl week, it will give fans the chance to enjoy more football, along with all the other exciting activities the week brings.

As for players, they will also get the opportunity to be a part of the league’s biggest week. The NFL is exploring this option and is considering moving the Pro Bowl to this slot on a permanent basis in order to increase fan engagement.

The league will, however, continue to endorse the flag-football game as part of the Pro Bowl’s main event. The game will continue to feature the league’s best players from the AFC taking on the best players from the NFC, and while Peyton and Eli Manning will remain involved in some capacity, there will be new head coaches for each conference.

2026 Pro Bowl Event Details

While the Pro Bowl has been shifted ahead, that is not the only major change. For the past three years, this annual event used to take place in Orlando, Florida, but the upcoming event will be held in the Bay Area.

Super Bowl LX is set to take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, giving fans easy access to both events. The Pro Bowl will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. ESPN will begin coverage of the grand event from 6:30 p.m. ET, and the flag football game will be held at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Apart from the main flag football game, ESPN will also showcase a preview of the week, along with a dedicated show for the Pro Bowl on Sunday, February 1. This show will focus on the players on each roster and their stories. ESPN’s sister channel, ABC, will also feature more content related to the Pro Bowl at 12 p.m. ET.

This latest change in the Pro Bowl games goes to show just how much effort the league is putting into revamping the event. An event that was once considered dead has been reignited, particularly in the last three years, after the NFL joined hands with Peyton Manning and his Omaha Productions team.

Now, time will tell if this most recent modification will improve audience engagement further or whether the league will still have to work on improving its version of the ‘All-Star Game.’

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
