The NFC West currently dominates the playoff picture with three teams going through!
With the conclusion of Monday Night Football last night, the Arizona Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys, bringing an end to Week 9 of the NFL season. Now that we have reached the midway point of the regular season, it is a good time to look at where all the teams from the NFC stand in terms of their chances of making it to the playoffs.
In Week 9, the 49ers, Vikings, Bears, Panthers, Rams, Seahawks, and Cardinals were all the NFC teams to win their respective games. As there were some surprising results this past week, it will surely keep things tighter around the conference as teams jostle for the playoff spots in the weeks to come.
So, without further ado, here is a look at all the NFC teams and their chances of making it to the postseason as per the official NFL website.
The top 7 teams in the NFC all hold a very high chance of proceeding to the postseason. The Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, and the Seattle Seahawks are all 6-2, but their playoff probability stands at 97%, 93%, 91% and 86%, respectively.
The Green Bay Packers, with a 5-2-1 record, are next with a playoff probability of 82%, while the San Francisco 49ers (6-3) and the Detroit Lions (5-3) take the sixth and seventh spots with a 78% and 79% chance of making the playoffs.
The table below represents the NFC playoff picture if the season ended today.
| Playoff Seeding | Team | Record | Division | Playoff Probability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Philadelphia Eagles | 6-2 | NFC East | 97% |
| 2 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 6-2 | NFC South | 93% |
| 3 | Seattle Seahawks | 6-2 | NFC West | 86% |
| 4 | Green Bay Packers | 5-2-1 | NFC North | 82% |
| 5 | Los Angeles Rams | 6-2 | NFC West | 91% |
| 6 | San Francisco 49ers | 6-3 | NFC West | 78% |
| 7 | Detroit Lions | 5-3 | NFC North | 79% |

Teams that are still in contention for the playoffs include the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and the Carolina Panthers, who have the best chances to make it to the postseason.
The Bears (5-3) and Vikings (4-4) are currently third and fourth, respectively, in the NFC North and hold a playoff probability of 26% and 22%, respectively. The Panthers, who have a 5-4 record, are second in the NFC South and have a 23% chance of making the postseason.
The Atlanta Falcons, with a 3-5 record, still hold an 11% chance of making the postseason, but those are quite slim odds, to be honest.
The Dallas Cowboys (3-5-1), Arizona Cardinals (3-5), Washington Commanders (3-6), New York Giants (2-7), and the New Orleans Saints (1-8) are all teams that are nearly out of playoff contention.
The Cowboys and the Cardinals hold just a 5% chance, while the Commanders have a 3% chance, and the Giants and Saints have just a 1% chance of making it to the postseason this year. Another loss or two, and all these teams will seal the deal for these teams.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
