Nottingham Forest Forward Anthony Elanga Joins Newcastle United in £55M Transfer

Newcastle United have secured their first signing of the summer after completing a £55 million transfer for Nottingham Forest forward Anthony Elanga. The Magpies had seen an earlier £45 million bid rejected last month but returned with an improved £55 million offer late last week, which Forest accepted.

The Sweden international has passed his medical and signed a long-term contract with the Magpies. The transfer fee is worth up to 55 million pounds, which includes 3 million pounds in performance-related add-ons. Newcastle United will feature in the Champions League at next season and that is understood to be a major factor in Elanga’s decision to sign for the club.

Elanga began his professional career at Manchester United and Forest paid just 15 million pounds to sign him from United in 2023. The 23-year old helped Forest secure a place in the Conference League last season with six goals and 11 assists in the Premier League. The move will bolster the Magpies’ attacking options, adding pace and creativity to their frontline.

Callum Wilson To Leave Newcastle

Meannwhile, veteran striker Callum Wilson has confirmed his departure from Newcastle United, bringing an end to a four-year stint at St James’ Park. The 33-year-old striker arrived from Bournemouth in 2020 for just over £19 million. He leaves Newcastle having made 130 appearances and scoring 49 goals for the Magpies across all competitions.

Despite being hampered by injuries, Wilson made 18 Premier League appearances last season. Wilson’s contract expired last week and despite discussions, a new deal could not be agreed, paving the way for his exit. In a message on the club’s official website, Wilson said,

“It’s time to say goodbye after an unbelievable few years in the Toon. Thank you for everything. We stood strong together through the highs and some lows to help the club experience new heights.

“All good things come to an end but there’s no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my families hearts. Thank you for the memories.”
