It was the biggest failure for the Gamecocks, who were seeking back-to-back glories.
UConn denied South Carolina to script a consecutive NCAA title after a routing 82-59 win in the final on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies won their 12th overall NCAA title and first since 2016. It was one-way traffic in the 2025 Women’s NCAA championship game, as UConn maintained its grip from the first quarter, and South Carolina players had no answer.
Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd dropped a combined 65-point performance to lead a comfortable victory over the 2024 NCAA winners. They are the first trio of teammates to each score 100 points in an NCAA tournament since 2009.

The Gamecocks couldn’t respond and the panic button was pressed in the fourth quarter when the Huskies stretched the lead to 32 points with four minutes to go. Sarah Strong completed his fourth double-double in the NCAA tournament and her 114 total points in the 2025 March Madness set a new Division I record for a freshman.
