Trey Lyles
Trey Lyles is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born on November 5, 1995, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Lyles moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, at a young age. He attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, where he quickly established himself as a notable basketball talent. During his high school career, he was a highly coveted recruit, participating in prestigious events such as the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic in 2014.
After a successful high school career, Lyles committed to playing college basketball for the University of Kentucky. He played one season for the Kentucky Wildcats during the 2014-2015 academic year. As a freshman, Lyles was an integral part of a historically strong Kentucky team that remained undefeated for much of the season and reached the NCAA Final Four before ultimately losing to Wisconsin. He demonstrated his versatility as a forward, showing an ability to score, rebound, and contribute defensively, averaging 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in 36 appearances. In 2017, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets as part of a package that sent Donovan Mitchell to the Jazz.
In Denver, Lyles embraced a larger role and had some of his most productive seasons. During the 2017-2018 season, he averaged a career-high 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, showcasing his ability to space the floor with his shooting and contribute as an inside scorer. He spent two full seasons with the Nuggets before signing with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2019 offseason. With the Spurs, Lyles continued to be a consistent presence, often starting and providing solid rebounding and defensive efforts. He played for the Spurs for two seasons before being traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2021.
After a brief stint with the Pistons, Lyles signed with the Sacramento Kings in February 2022. With the Kings, he found a stable role as a veteran presence and a key contributor off the bench, providing valuable minutes as a floor-spacing power forward and a capable rebounder. He has been part of the Kings’ resurgence, contributing to their playoff run and success.
