Tre Jones, born on January 8, 2000, is an American professional basketball player who plays as a point guard for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jones attended Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where he was a highly-touted basketball prospect. As a senior, he led his team to a state championship and was named Minnesota Mr. Basketball. He was a five-star recruit and committed to play college basketball for Duke University. At Duke, Jones quickly established himself as a key player. In his freshman season (2018-2019), he averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, earning ACC All-Freshman Team honors. He was known for his exceptional defense and on-court leadership. In his sophomore season (2019-2020), Jones further enhanced his game, averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He was named ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first player in ACC history to win both awards in the same season. He also earned First-Team All-ACC honors. Following his successful sophomore season, Jones declared for the 2020 NBA Draft. He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the 41st overall pick in the second round. Since joining the Spurs, Jones has steadily developed his game. In his rookie season (2020-2021), he primarily played with the Austin Spurs, the San Antonio Spurs’ G League affiliate, gaining valuable professional experience. In the 2021-2022 season, he saw increased playing time with the main roster, showcasing his defensive prowess, court vision, and ability to run the offense. He became a consistent contributor off the bench, providing energy and stability. In the 2022-2023 season, Jones took on an even larger role, often starting at point guard due to injuries and roster changes. He demonstrated his capability as a primary ball-handler and playmaker, improving his scoring and continuing to be a disruptive defender. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Spurs in July 2023. Off the court, Tre Jones is known for his quiet demeanor and strong work ethic. He comes from a prominent basketball family; his older brother, Tyus Jones, is also an NBA player. Tre is recognized for his high basketball IQ and his commitment to improving his game.
