Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Athanasios Rotimi “Thanasis” Antetokounmpo, also known as Thanasis Antetokounmpo, was born on July 18, 1992, in Athens, Greece. His full birth name is Athanasios Rotimi Adetokunbo. He is a professional basketball player, currently playing for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Antetokounmpo holds both Greek and Nigerian nationality. His parents, Charles and Veronica, are from Nigeria, with Charles being Yoruba and Veronica Igbo. His father, Charles, was a soccer player and his mother, Veronica, was a high jumper. He grew up in the Sepolia neighborhood of Athens. Thanasis Antetokounmpo began his basketball career in youth clubs, playing for the junior teams of Filathlitikos starting in 2008. He then progressed to the senior men’s team of Filathlitikos, where he played in the Greek semi-professional fourth division during the 2010-11 season. There is no information indicating a collegiate career for Antetokounmpo, as his path led him directly through club basketball. In terms of his professional career, Antetokounmpo was drafted into the NBA in 2014, selected as the 51st overall pick in the second round by the New York Knicks.
