MJ Walker
James Michael “M. J.” Walker Jr. was born on March 28, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is an American professional basketball player who is 1.96 m (6 feet 5 inches) tall and weighs 97 kg (213 lb). He plays as a small forward or shooting guard.
Walker attended Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Georgia. He was a highly-rated recruit, earning McDonald’s All-American and Nike Hoop Summit honors in 2017. He played college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles from 2017 to 2021.
During his college career at Florida State, Walker steadily improved his performance. In his freshman year (2017–18), he averaged 7.0 points per game (PPG), 1.7 rebounds per game (RPG), and shot 34.5% from the three-point line. His sophomore season (2018–19) saw his PPG increase to 7.5, RPG to 2.2, and his three-point percentage to 32.8%. In his junior year (2019–20), he averaged 10.6 PPG and 1.7 RPG, with a three-point shooting accuracy of 36.1%. His senior year (2020–21) was his most successful, with averages of 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, earning Second Team All-ACC honors. Overall, in 120 career games at Florida State, he averaged 9.0 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and shot 38.0% from the field.
Following his successful college career, Walker declared for the 2021 NBA draft, forgoing an additional season of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was not selected in the 2021 NBA draft.
After the draft, Walker signed with the New York Knicks on August 20, 2021, but was waived on October 16 of the same year. In October 2021, he joined the Westchester Knicks as an affiliate player in the NBA G League, where he averaged 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He also had a stint with the Phoenix Suns in 2021–2022 and the Vancouver Bandits in 2023. Currently, he is a professional basketball player for the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League, a team he joined in 2024. He also played for the Canterbury Rams in 2024 and was an NZNBL champion in 2024. Most recently, the Atlanta Hawks waived him before the 2025–26 NBA season on October 15, 2025. He also played for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Summer League.
