Mark Sears
Mark Sears is a professional basketball player born on February 19, 2002, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. His parents are Chad and Lameka Sears, and he is Christian. He attended Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, for high school. Sears is 1.83 meters (6 feet 0 inches) tall and weighs 84 kg (185 pounds). He primarily plays as a point guard and shoots left-handed.
Sears began his college career at Ohio University, where he played from 2020 to 2022. During his time at Ohio, he showed significant talent, earning a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team in 2021 and First-team All-MAC in 2022. His points per game (PPG) increased from 8.5 in his freshman year to 19.6 in his sophomore year. He then transferred to the University of Alabama, playing there from 2022 to 2025. At Alabama, he continued to excel, receiving Second-team All-SEC honors in 2023 and First-team All-SEC in 2024 and 2025. Sears was also recognized as a Consensus second-team All-American in 2024 and Consensus first-team All-American in 2025. His PPG at Alabama were 12.5 (2022-23), 21.5 (2023-24), and 18.6 (2024-25). Throughout his entire college career, he played in 170 games, starting 151 of them, with a career PPG of 16.7.
In the 2025 NBA draft, Mark Sears was not selected. However, shortly after the draft, he agreed to a two-way NBA deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. He is also associated with the Wisconsin Herd, the Bucks’ G-League affiliate. News indicates that Sears, along with other Alabama players, secured NBA contracts after the draft, with some suggesting that not being selected in the second round was ultimately beneficial for him. He was considered the eighth-best available player by CBS Sports among those not selected in the draft.
Sears had a total of 12 pre-draft workouts with various NBA teams. He had transferred to Alabama from Ohio University because he always wanted to play in the SEC, a conference he considers great and one that prepares players for the next level. During his time at Alabama, the SEC was particularly strong, with many teams ranked among the top five or ten in the conference. He expressed during a pre-draft interview that he had no idea how things would turn out but was ready to take advantage of any opportunity he received.
