Luke Kornet
Luke Kornet, born on July 15, 1995, is an American professional basketball player who plays as a center for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kornet played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. During his four years at Vanderbilt, he averaged 8.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game. He became known for his versatile offensive game, including his ability to shoot three-pointers, which is unusual for a player of his size. In his senior year, he was named to the Second Team All-SEC. After going undrafted in the 2017 NBA draft, Kornet signed with the New York Knicks for the 2017 NBA Summer League. His strong performance in the Summer League earned him a two-way contract with the Knicks, which meant he would split his time between the Knicks and their G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks. He made his NBA debut on February 8, 2018, against the Toronto Raptors. Kornet spent two seasons with the Knicks before signing with the Chicago Bulls in 2019. He played for the Bulls for parts of two seasons before being traded to the Boston Celtics in March 2021 as part of a three-team deal. After a brief stint with the Celtics, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in September 2021 but was waived before the start of the regular season. He then signed with the Maine Celtics, the G-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, in October 2021. He eventually returned to the Boston Celtics on a 10-day contract in January 2022 and has been with the team ever since. Throughout his NBA career, Kornet has been a solid rotation player, providing depth at the center position. He is valued for his shot-blocking, rebounding, and ability to space the floor with his three-point shooting. While not a primary scorer, he has shown flashes of offensive potential and contributed to the success of the teams he has played for. Off the court, Luke Kornet comes from a basketball family. His father, Frank Kornet, also played college basketball at Vanderbilt and was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1989 NBA draft. His mother, Tracy Kornet, is a television news anchor.
