Koby Brea
Koby Brea was born on November 6, 2002, in New York City, New York, USA. Both of his parents are from the Dominican Republic, and he was raised in Washington Heights, New York. He is an American and Dominican citizen. He attended Norman Thomas High School in Manhattan during his freshman year, but was cut from the basketball team. He later attended Monsignor Scanlan High School in the Bronx, New York. As a junior, he made the varsity team and averaged 18 points and five rebounds per game. In his senior year, he captained the team, averaging 20.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, leading Monsignor Scanlan High School to the New York Catholic High School Association Class AA Final Four for the first time in school history. He was named to the All-New York second team. In the summer of 2019, Brea represented the Dominican National Team in the FIBA Centrobasket Under-17 Championships, averaging 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in five appearances.
Brea’s collegiate basketball career began at Dayton, where he played from 2020 to 2024. In the 2021-22 season, he was named the Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, and shooting 48.7% from three-point range in league play, the best mark in the A-10. He played in all 35 Flyers games that season. During the 2022-23 season, he averaged 6.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, shooting 46% from three-point range against league opponents and recording a career-high 47 assists. In the 2023-24 season, Brea appeared in 33 games, starting four, and averaged a career-best 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. He led the country in three-point percentage, hitting 49.8% (100-201) of his attempts, the highest mark in the NCAA in six seasons. He finished the season with multiple three-pointers made in 27 games and at least one three-pointer in 35 of the team’s 36 games, including 24 consecutive to start the season. He shot 51.4% from three-point range inside Rupp Arena and led the team in scoring eight times. He was also a member of the 2023-24 Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. For the 2024-25 season, Koby Brea transferred to the University of Kentucky as a graduate student, majoring in Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Management. He continued his strong performance, averaging 11.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for Kentucky.
Koby Brea entered the 2025 NBA Draft and was selected as the 41st overall pick in the second round by the Golden State Warriors. He was then traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the draft rights to picks 52 (Alex Toohey) and 59 (Jahmai Mashack). The trade to the Suns became official on July 6, 2025. He is widely considered the best shooter in his draft class. Brea is 1.96 meters tall and weighs 98 kg. He currently plays as a shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA, with his professional career beginning in 2025. He is also associated with the Valley Suns. His career highlights include being a two-time Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 and 2024.
