Jason Preston
Jason Preston, born on August 10, 1999, in Coral Springs, Florida, USA, is an American professional basketball player. Standing 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) tall and weighing 181 lb (82 kg), Preston plays as a point guard and shoots right-handed. He attended William R. Boone High School in Orlando, Florida, and Believe Prep Academy in Athens, Tennessee.
Preston’s collegiate career began at Ohio University, where he played for the Ohio Bobcats from 2018 to 2021. In his freshman year (2018-19), he played in 30 games with 22 starts, averaging 6.0 points, 3.4 assists, and shooting 43.4% from the field in 29.5 minutes per game. He led the team with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.8. His performance improved significantly in his sophomore season (2019-20), where he averaged 16.8 points, 7.4 assists, and 6.4 rebounds, earning Second Team All-MAC honors. As a junior (2020-21), Preston continued to excel, averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game. He was named First Team All-MAC and was the MVP of the MAC tournament in 2021. He declared for the 2021 NBA draft on April 26, 2021, while maintaining his collegiate eligibility, but later decided to remain in the draft.
In the 2021 NBA draft, Jason Preston was selected in the second round as the 33rd overall pick by the Orlando Magic. He was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. Unfortunately, he missed his entire rookie season (2021-22) after undergoing surgery to treat a right foot injury. His NBA debut occurred on October 23, 2022.
Preston’s professional career has seen him navigate various challenges, including injuries and team changes. After being drafted, he spent time with the Clippers and their G League affiliate. In the 2022-23 season, he was recalled from the G League and was available for NBA games, though he played sparingly. He also suffered a calf injury during this period.
More recently, in 2024, Preston gained recognition in the NBA G League, being named to the First Team All-NBA G League and leading the league in assists. He also had stints with the Utah Jazz and their G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. In a recent development in October 2025, Preston was waived by the Clippers and is expected to join the San Diego Clippers in the G League, following a training camp agreement in August 2025.
