Georges Niang
Georges Niang, born on June 17, 1993, is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing at 6’7″ (2.01 m) and weighing 230 lbs (104 kg), Niang primarily plays as a power forward. Niang attended Iowa State University, where he played college basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones from 2012 to 2016. During his time at Iowa State, Niang became a prominent player, known for his versatility, scoring ability, and high basketball IQ. He was a key contributor to the Cyclones’ success, leading them to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. In his senior season (2015-2016), he averaged 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors and being named a consensus second-team All-American. He finished his college career as one of Iowa State’s all-time leading scorers. After a successful college career, Georges Niang was selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 50th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 NBA draft. He signed his rookie contract with the Pacers on July 11, 2016. He spent most of his rookie season with the Pacers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, where he further developed his skills. Niang’s NBA journey saw him play for several teams. Following his stint with the Pacers, he was waived by the team in October 2017. He then signed with the Golden State Warriors’ G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, in December 2017. His performance there led him to sign a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz in January 2018. Most recently, in July 2023, Georges Niang signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is currently a significant part of the Cavaliers’ rotation, contributing with his shooting, passing, and veteran presence.
