Amir Coffey
Amir Coffey was born on June 17, 1997, in Hopkins, Minnesota, USA. His parents are Sheba Coffey and Richard Coffey. His father was a member of the Gophers basketball team for four years, from 1986 to 1990, and then played for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA. He has two older sisters, Sydney and Nia, who both played college basketball. Nia was an All-American at Northwestern and currently plays for the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA. Amir Coffey’s biggest sports thrill is having won a state championship at Hopkins High School, where he was named Minnesota Mr. Basketball in 2016 and participated in the Jordan Brand Classic. His major is youth studies. Amir Coffey played college basketball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2016 to 2019. He started all 33 games during his freshman season (2016-17), averaging 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. In his sophomore year (2017-18), he averaged 14.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 18 games. During his junior season (2018-19), he played in 36 games, starting all of them, and averaged 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, earning Third-Team All-Big Ten honors. Amir Coffey was not selected in the 2019 NBA draft. He currently plays as a point guard/small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and has played professionally since 2019. His career highlights include being named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2017.
