Alex Toohey
Alex Toohey is an Australian professional basketball player who plays for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born on May 5, 2004, in Canberra, ACT, Australia, Toohey grew up playing basketball and cricket, following in his father’s footsteps in the latter sport. However, he eventually decided to focus on basketball after being called up to the Australian U-15 national team for the Oceania Games.
Toohey attended Marist College Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Australia, for high school. His playing career began in 2021, and he has been active ever since. From 2021 to 2023, he played for the BA Centre of Excellence, and from 2023 to 2025, he was with the Sydney Kings of the National Basketball League (NBL). During his time with the Sydney Kings, he was recognized with the NBL Next Generation Award in 2025.
In the 2025 NBA draft, Toohey was a significant prospect. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the 52nd overall pick in the second round. However, his draft rights were later traded to the Golden State Warriors on July 6, 2025, as part of a seven-team trade that notably involved Kevin Durant. On September 29, 2025, he officially signed a two-way contract with the Warriors, which also includes playing for their NBA G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.
As a professional player, Toohey primarily plays as a small forward, although he has also been listed as a power forward. He is 2.03 meters tall and weighs 101 kg. He shoots right-handed and wears jersey number 22 for the Golden State Warriors.
