Alec Burks
Alec Burks was born on July 20, 1991, in Grandview, Missouri, USA. He is an American professional basketball player who primarily plays as a shooting guard. Burks attended Grandview High School, where he excelled in basketball. In 2009, he was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Missouri. During his senior year, he averaged an impressive 23.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He also won the Kansas City Star and Metro Sports Player of the Year awards in his senior year. After his high school career, Burks played college basketball for the University of Colorado Boulder. He had a standout freshman season in 2009-10, becoming the first Colorado freshman to surpass 500 points in a single season (512 points) and only the second CU freshman to lead his team in rebounds (5.0 rpg) since Matt Bullard in the 1985-86 season. He started all 30 games he played, averaging 17.1 points per game and was second on the team in scoring. In his sophomore year (2010-11), Burks continued to make history at the University of Colorado. He set school records for points scored in a single season (779 points), most free throws made in a single season (249), and most free throw attempts in a single season (302). He was the first CU player in school history to score over 770 points, 240 rebounds, and 100 assists in the same season. Additionally, he was the first CU player to average 20 or more points in a season (20.5 ppg). He also led the team in scoring (20.5 ppg) and assists (112, 2.9 apg), and was second in rebounds (6.5 rpg). During his time at Colorado, he recorded a career-high 36 points in an upset victory over No. 9/8 Missouri on January 8, 2011, becoming the 18th player in school history to reach that many points in a single game. His career statistics at Colorado include 1,291 points (15th all-time), 397 rebounds (40th all-time), 165 assists (35th all-time), 76 steals (tied for 26th all-time), and 67 starts (tied for 20th all-time). He holds CU’s freshman (512) and sophomore (779) scoring records. Alec Burks was selected by the Utah Jazz as the 12th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. Since then, he has played for several teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA), including most recently the Miami Heat. He is 1.96 m (6 feet 5 inches) tall and weighs 97 kg (214 pounds). His professional career has seen him primarily play as a shooting guard.
