NBA Playoffs Warriors vs. Timberwolves Game 4: Curry-Less Warriors Find Themselves on Verge of Elimination after Third Straight Loss

Golden State will head to Minneapolis on Wednesday for Game 5 to avoid an elimination.

Stephen Curry’s absence is haunting the Warriors in the conference semifinals as Minnesota beat Golden State 117-110 in Game 4 to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. The Timberwolves secured their third consecutive victory over the Warriors after losing Game 1 99-88. The Wolves now require one more win to reach the conference finals for the second straight year.

Anthony Edwards (31) and Julius Randle (30) scored combined 61 points to outplay the Warriors in offense. Jaden McDaniels dropped a double-double while Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 13 points off the bench. Jonathan Kuminga led the Warriors with 23 points off the bench. Jimmy Butler had a tough outing with 14 points on 5-9 FG.

Third Quarter Outburst Helps Minnesota to Go 3-1 in the Series

Warriors held a 60-58 lead at halftime, thanks to a 19-6 run in second quarter. The Timberwolves flipped the table and went on a 17-0 run in the middle of the third to outscored the Warriors 39-17 in the third quarter. The Warriors’ 3-point shooting struggle continued as they went 5-for-19 from 3PT range heading to the final quarter.

The Timberwolves stretched their lead to 21 points in first seven minutes of the fourth period. It would have been the Warriors’ most lopsided playoff defeat after leading at halftime since 1958. However, the Warriors went on a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 13 points with less than two minutes to go. Golden State outscored Minnesota 33-20 in the final quarter but fell short of 7 points.

It was painful to watch Jimmy Butler, who dropped one of the poor performances and it hurt the Warriors in offense. Kuminga, who chipped in 16 points in opening-half, failed to deliver in crucial phase of the game. Draymond Green and Buddy Hield recorded in double-figures. Kevon Looney almost got a double-double off the bench.

Warriors were shooting 8-for-27 from 3-point range compared to the Timberwolves’ 47.1% shooting on 3PT range. Warriors outscored the Wolves 54-42 in the paint but their shooting slump allowed Minnesota to control the game. Golden State will head to Minneapolis on Wednesday to avoid an elimination. Game 5 is Wednesday, the same day as Stephen Curry will be re-evaluated.
